KTA was responsible for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering design for 6 classroom renovations in Virginia Tech’s Seitz Hall. Classrooms 103, 104, and 105 were renovated into one large classroom. The new classroom was conditioned using split system HVAC units located above the ceiling. New lighting, power, and communications were provided along with a video projector and motorized screen. Classrooms 106, 107, and 107A were renovated into new labs and classrooms. Renovations included a new HVAC system utilizing rooftop DX cooling units with steam coils, a fume hood exhaust system with rooftop Strobic fan, and fan ducted to hoods provided by the university. The university also used vent-free hoods in two labs that required power and water connections. New power, data, and lighting was provided to each lab served from new electric panels tied into existing. New domestic cold and hot water along with waste and de-ionized water systems were provided to each lab using existing utilities. Construction services consisted of cost estimate, initial site survey, shop drawing review, construction observation, substantial completion inspection, final inspection, and as-built drawings.
